Mayor’s Youth Council
Mayor Matt Pacifico established a Mayor’s Youth Council
(MYC) to engage more young people in the community.
The purpose of the MYC is to provide area high school
students the opportunity to share their ideas and concerns about issues young
people face today. From advising the Mayor on key priorities to acting as a
liaison between the schools and City Hall, the MYC works together to give a
voice to young people across our community.
Similar initiatives are currently ongoing in cities around
the country, as well as national youth conference held yearly by the National
League of Cities in Washington, D.C.
The application will be open to junior and
senior students who attend the Altoona Area High School, Bishop Guilfoyle High
School and Great Commission School. The MYC will take place during the school
year and will require that students apply on a yearly basis to
Students will meet once a month at
approximately 3:15 p.m. for one hour. The meeting location will rotate between the
participating schools each month. For
the 2018-2019 school year, the MYC will officially meet in November 2018.
The application period is now open and the deadline to submit applications and recommendation
letters, which are attached to this announcement, is Friday, October 5, 2018.
