On July 9, 2004, the City of Altoona passed an Ordinance that adopted the Uniform Construction Code and established new regulations for enforcement of the International Mechanical Code and the International Energy Conservation Code.
Permits will be required for all new installations and replacements for the following: furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, and heat pumps. Repairs will not require a permit. These permits may be obtained at the Inspections Office located in the 1st Floor of City Hall, 1301 12th Street, Altoona. The fee schedule for mechanical permits is based on the total dollar amount of the work to be conducted (see below).
In order to obtain Mechanical Permits, all Mechanical Contractors must be licensed to conduct work in the City of Altoona. A City of Altoona Business License is required as well as a City of Altoona Contractor License (Note: Plumbing Contractors must obtain a Contractor License in addition to their Plumbing license prior to conducting mechanical work.)
