REQUESTS FOR ONE-TIME PLUMBING PERMITS

LICENSING

All plumbers conducting work in the City of Altoona are required to be licensed in accordance with City requirements. This includes Master, Journeyman, and Apprentice electricians.

Only Master Plumbers may obtain City Plumbing Permits. Therefore, business owners must be licensed Master Plumbers if they wish to conduct business in the City of Altoona.

Plumbers wishing to take the examination to advance to a Journeyman or Master status must complete an application and submit to the City of Altoona Department of Codes and Inspections. The application must be reviewed by the City of Altoona Plumbing Board. A written decision will then be sent and if approved, an examination bulletin will also be mailed.

Effective January 1, 2007, the City of Altoona Department of Codes and Inspections will be using the International Code Council as our testing agency. Testing is either written or computer-based. Information can also be found on their website, www.iccsafe.org.

ONE-TIME PERMITS

There is a provision in the Ordinance that allows out-of town businesses the opportunity to conduct a one-time job in the City per year without requiring that business to become licensed under City requirements. The business must complete a one-time application and submit it to the Department of Codes and Inspections. The Plumbing Board will review the application and the information that is submitted regarding licensing information in the city in which their business is established. The company also must submit the required insurance information.
