This map shows both the existing Special Flood Hazard Areas and the proposed new ones. Within the City, the areas in blue were designated as Special Flood Hazard Areas (1% annual chance of inundation, also commonly known as the 100 year floodplain and floodway) by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on March 2, 1983, and July 16, 1987. Lenders, insurers, and City regulations currently address this area as the floodplain and floodway.
The areas in red are now proposed to be designated as Special Flood Hazard Areas by FEMA, and would either become or remain subject to floodplain/floodway regulations and insurance if not successfully appealed.
Thus, areas where the red and blue overlap to make purple are in the existing Special Flood Hazard Area and are proposed by FEMA to remain there. Areas in red (without blue underneath) are proposed to be added to the Special Flood Hazard Area and would become regulated floodplains. Areas in blue (without red over them) are proposed to be removed from the Special Flood Hazard Area, and would no longer be regulated floodplains.
