SNOW ANGELS PROGRAM
What is the Snow Angels Program?
Snow and ice covered sidewalks can be hazardous for everyone. The City of Altoona’s Snow Angels Program pairs older residents and people with disabilities with neighbors nearby to assist with snow removal on their sidewalks. This program aims to make properties safer during the winter months. City residents, community groups, and faith-based organizations are all encouraged to sign up as Snow Angels to support neighbors in need!
Requirements for Snow Angels RECIPIENTS
Must be at least 65 years old, or, be disabled and unable to perform snow removal due to physical mobility impairments
Must live within the city limits
Must lack the resources (financial, family, and/or friends nearby) to assist with snow removal
Must submit a completed Recipient Application and sign the waiver portion
Requirements for Snow Angels VOLUNTEERS
Must be physically capable of shoveling snow and ice
Must submit a completed Volunteer Application and sign the waiver portion
Things to know before signing up
Recipients and Volunteers will be notified by phone or email if matched and assistance can be provided.
Snow Angels may have late season availability due to ongoing registration.
Snow Angels service will depend on availability and is not guaranteed.
Snow Angels will need reasonable time to arrive/offer assistance.
Recipients may not receive immediate help during a snowfall.
Recipients are not required to be home when Snow Angels are present.
Recipients must ensure a safe work area free of debris and hazardous materials.
